11 Essential Ingredients to Guarantee Success in 2018 and Beyond

Success is a little bit of luck with perseverance, tenacity, faith, skill and lots of character. Despite what life may throws at you.
 
If you are waiting until January to start your business planning process, you have put yourself at a disadvantage. You have already lost the first quarter of the year because all planning takes considered thought. It needs time to ramp up your behaviours and communications and to get into your full swing of execution. Unless you start now, it will be the second quarter of the year before you are able to check your progress and adjust your actions.
 
Can you afford to waste time?
 
December is a valuable time to analyse and learn from your past experiences. Use your insights to think and plan for not only the new year ahead but to put in place your legacy. A legacy is not a financial gift, but it is the stories of your life, the impact your make and your accomplishments.
 
Gary Latham, the success psychologist says “95-97% of people in the world do not have written goals and fail, while only the 3-5% that have written goals do succeed”.
 
When it comes to getting paid to show your knowledge or to do what you love, are you interested or committed? Setting goals is making a commitment to your purpose or legacy.
 
What are you willing to give-up or sacrifice for your goal?
 
It is hard to commit yourself to something if your finish line is a nebulous point off in the distance future. Planning allows you to make your plans a reality.
 
While the right mindset will give you the motivation. It is your actions that give you the forward momentum to achieving your goal. So, goals in themselves will not create the success you desire, your thoughts and actions will.
 
There are the 11 Simple Steps to Create and Commit to Achieving Your Goals and Legacy
 
1. If you want to be in the 5%, then write down your goals necessary to achieve your legacy. The key is to create a legacy that is so freaking awesome you are willing to do anything to achieve it. Imagine what that might be, think big and ask what is the legacy you want to create?
 
2. To stay on your path and achieve your goals, you need a way of holding yourself accountable. It is important to tell others what you want and what you are doing to fulfil you ambitions. Ask for help, get a mentor, you must continue to learn. Strive to be the best at what you do and surround yourself with like-minded ambitious people.
 
3. Many of your current day to day tasks are habitual in nature. You may have created them months or years before. The key element is to create the right daily habits that will draw you closer to your goal. Continue your new habit until it becomes second nature, like brushing your teeth. Phase out the old habit by replacing it with the new more empowering habit.
 
4. Make your goal past tense as if you have already achieved it. For example if this was your goal, “I have travel the world as a well-paid international speaker and consultant”. The subconscious mind is malleable. You will cultivate world-class behaviours  because you focus on the behaviours necessary of world class speakers. Think it, to act it first, then this creates feelings of your new state of being. When writing past tens goal use the SMARTER goals method.
 
5. Put your subconscious to work. I talked about this in my TEDx talk, your subconscious is more powerful than you know. Every night before you go to bed, ask your subconscious a question, or plant an idea and then I go to sleep. Overnight your subconscious will be solving the problem.
 
6. If you are interested you will be full of excuses, but, if you are committed you see and create your opportunities. You need to become willing to do whatever it takes to make the changes.
 
7. Planning brings the distance into focus. Develop your longer-range legacy and then reverse engineer to set your goals. Not every goal will fit into 12 months. Some achievement will take longer. Do not think small, think big working backwards from your legacy with goal setting and action planning.
 
8. Find it and follow your own path, comparison will dilute what is unique, different and great about you. Tim Grover author of Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable, has a great attitude to this stating, “I don’t compete with anyone. Everyone competes with me.” Competitors are not you so why would you want to copy their goals, you do not what their results you want your own amazing results so, work toward achieving it.
 
9. Find your zone or flow, this is the space of acceptance, when everything is easy and flows to you. You must love what you do to have deep enjoyment, creativity, and a total committed involvement in it. In a flow state you become hyper-focused and ultra-aware of your behaviours.
 
10. Celebrate all success. You do not have to wait to achieve the goal. Set milestones and celebrate remaining focused on your personal journey. Your thought patterns and on new behaviours develops new neural pathways in your brain to change old habitual behaviours.
 
11. Do not race ahead of yourself judging what has not happened yet, once you have followed this plan focus on the present. Be mindful, both physically and emotionally. Mental awareness of your inner state as each external event happens allows you to give yourself a break! Ask what is the one thing you can do today, right now, towards your goal?”
 
Most goals are not focused or specific,and without a plan for long-term purposeful, sustainable success. It is easy to become overwhelmed and fail before you start or bite off more than you can chew.
 
Find your own path, stay focused on the goal with tenacity and courage and luck will come your way.
