“It is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns,” says Edward de Bono.
TED talk, internationally renowned fine artist John Paul Caponigro agrees “You are a Lot More Creative than You Think,” “The human being is a creative species.” You are born creative. You use it in different ways and in varying degrees.
What is Creativity?
One description is “Creativity is the ability to generate new ideas and new connections between ideas, and ways to solve problems in any field or realm of our lives.”
You might think:
- Only special people are creative, but everybody has creative capacities, however, many do not activate it.
- Creativity is about special activities such as music, art, design. Creativity is a function of everything you do and the way you think.
- Creativity from undisciplined accidents, however, creativity is a disciplined process that requires skill, knowledge, and control. Obviously, with imagination, inspiration and motivation.
Why must you nurture your creativity, even if you are not working in a creative industry?
Gallup research has named Creative Thinkers as one of the TEN entrepreneurial talents that must be present for a business to grow and sustain over time. So much of what we do when we relax and have fun away from the stress of our working life is the perfect breeding ground for creative thinking and ideas generation, which become our critical difference and advantage.
As rapidly technology advances, it is increasingly clear that creativity is thriving and never sleeps, making creativity a sought-after attribute both in employees and employers, in manufacturing, medicine, music and media, in fact in everything. Business is a means of implementing and furthering great ideas into great products and services.
Steve Jobs famously said “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they did not really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That is because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesise new things.”
This is what I have done through Africolette Clothing, my Creative Source.
We do not need more clothing produced in bad factory conditions abroad that are not suitable for chickens and children. You cannot wear these clothes with pride not knowing its source. Africolette is an ethical company producing special occasion clothing using sustainably sourced African colourful patterned fabrics, supporting local talent to tailor clothing in European styles that are manufactured in East London, which educates young people about the business enterprise. You can wear Africolette with style, confidence and pride.
