My name is Marie-Louise Fofana; I am doing a Master Degree in Communication at the University Paris 13 Villetaneuse in Paris. As part of my studies, I do a three-month internship. I decided to gain work experience in London, which will give me an advantage in my future job prospects.
My CV miraculously fell into the hands of Janice B Gordon, The Problem Solver. My adventure in vibrant London began on February 28th and continued until June 2nd, 2015 as The Problem Solver Executive Assistant.
This internship was very rewarding because it allowed me to discover in detail this business sector, the characters, and the constraints. It enabled me to participate in the growth of a company through my many and various projects. I particularly appreciated my experience as Janice’s Executive.
The experience allowed me to be more independent because I was required to manage my time and projects from home part of the week, something I have not done before during an internship. I am more organised in the way plan my work, Janice was very particular in her tasks.
Although the tasks were complicated at first, due to the language barrier and having to adapt to Janice’s working methods. Janice showed patience throughout my internship, she was very attentive and taught me a lot. Working with Janice was a real pleasure; she is a great woman with a wonderful personality and full of energy. I think she was a teacher or trainer in another life because she does it well. All I can say is that I have learned more in three months working with Janice than in 6 months in my previous internship.
I have had the opportunity to participate in significant events such as, The Business Show and filming in HSBC Canary Wharf. I had the chance to meet and network with professionals from all sectors; to attend seminars and to listen to inspirational and motivational presentations.
I participated in the development of Janice’s reputation on the web managing all of her social media interactions. I also created an Instagram account for Janice, created content and recorded and edited videos. I wrote five blogs, three press releases and created five newsletters; I managed Janice’s website changes and created two landing pages. I loved working on Janice’s social media because I am used to be familiar with social media, and I was glad to share my knowledge to help her business.
I had to do things I have never done before; so now I believe in my abilities and feel confident to succeed. Moreover, I am more comfortable speaking and writing in the English language, which is a must if you want to progress in your career. This internship has brought me so much both professionally than personally.
Merci Janice, for giving me this opportunity to work with you and for trusting me in your business. I am convinced that you will miss my accent and my cheerfulness as I will miss yours. Thank you for everything.
